Paddington House II

This renovation was an exciting opportunity to blend the inherent charm of a traditional Paddington terrace with all the requirements for contemporary living. Set on a north-facing block with leafy views in a quiet cul-de-sac, the home surprises with its thoughtful design and functional spaces.

A previous renovation of the house established its voluminous envelope, laying the foundation for a refined update.

The house maintains its classic façade, but once inside you are greeted with a carefully crafted entry. The living area has been divided by bespoke joinery and a strategically placed fireplace, balancing the proportions of the room. This leads to a wide staircase that descends to the double height kitchen and dining area, which open seamlessly to the courtyard.

The stairs are designed to taper in an amphitheater style, creating a sense of direction drawing you past the new Tama Blue marble kitchen island bench. The aged brass handrails add both function and character to the space.

The kitchen and dining areas feature soaring high timber lined coffered ceilings and highlight windows that enhance natural light and ventilation.

Outside, the upper terrace serves as an outdoor dining area. The lower terrace is the perfect spot for casual entertaining, complete with a firepit and beautifully landscaped surroundings.

Upstairs, the main bedroom was expanded westward, and new doors that connect to a balcony which becomes part of the room when open. The existing ensuite was re-configured so that all amenities were level and the new shower located under an existing skylight. The other bedrooms, attic, and basement rumpus room were also updated, along with the laundry.

Every element of this renovation was designed to create a harmonious balance between heritage and innovation, providing a home that is both timeless and entirely suited to modern family living.
