We believe good architecture begins with a strong, clear vision.

It is driven by collaboration and a well thought-out plan to guide sunlight and natural ventilation. It is realised through expertise and intelligent design. It is finessed using premium materials and delivered through precise, robust construction.

We find our inspiration from all aspects of architecture and art to produce designs that reflect our clients’ personalities, are sympathetic to their environs and bring spaces to life. Our carefully crafted houses range from luxurious residences to smaller renovations.

Alex Porebski

Director

While being surrounded by architecture, art and very colorful art personalities of his parents’ friends from an early age it wasn’t until he visited the Vaucluse house, designed by Andre in 1986 that Alex’s taste for architecture developed. The post-modern home, with Escher-like staircases and double height spaces, beautifully integrated the indoors with the outdoors had that ‘wow’ factor when you walked through the front door which Alex likes to see in the houses they design.

His European trip in the early 90’s increased his interest, in particular the works of Andrea Palladio on one side and Carlo Scarpa on the other.

But it was a tour through Ricardo Boffil’s office that really captivated his interest further.

On return Alex completed his bachelor of Architecture degree at the University of New South Wales. During his studies he worked part-time at Andre’s office and was mentored by some inspirational architects. Alex has a masterful understanding of architecture and detail that remains in his work today.

He believes that good design does not come from just the architect but close involvement to understanding the client’s needs and the site. No client or site are the same and each will have individual and unique requirements. No building is finished unless it is detailed to perfection.

Alex is a registered architect in NSW, Queensland and Victoria.

Victoria D’Alisa

Director

Having been surrounded in art and architecture from an early age, Victoria’s passions also include music and languages. Her sole ambition is to ensure the interiors follow the same language and tone as the exterior of the houses and buildings we design. She believes materials should be expressed through refined detailing and that some of the best designs are more subtle, allowing the spaces to slowly reveal themselves.

A graduate of Interior Architecture from the University of New South Wales (1998), Victoria began her career working on corporate and retail projects in Sydney with interior design firm Geyer.

After joining Andre Porebski & Associates in 2002, and having seen the completion of various houses, Victoria moved to Geneva, Switzerland and was fortunate to work for Swiss minimalist architecture firm Phillipe Meier and Associates and then with French architect Eric Maria an affiliate/partner of the renowned Jean Nouvel. Here she worked on a penthouse project in Barcelona and was then a key part of the pan-European planning and design team for the National Museum in Doha, Qatar.

After returning to Australia and rejoining the family firm in 2011 Victoria’s focus again shifted to residential interior projects to help clients realise the interiors of their beautiful homes.

Andre Porebski

Founder

Andre arrived in Sydney from Poland, in 1960.  He enrolled in Architecture at Sydney University and remembers some lectures in particular those given by artist Lloyd Rees which imbued a more refined approach to architecture.

At the end of his first year at Sydney University, Andre obtained a part-time position with Architects Ian McKay and Philip Cox.

Midway through his studies at the age of 22 he was asked to design a house on the water’s edge on Kurraba Point. He accepted the commission without hesitation and to his credit the clients lived there contentedly for 50 years without having had to make any significant changes to the building.

Upon graduation, in 1970, after initially working for various architectural practices, Andre established a practice with Brian Zulaikha, working on a variety of projects. When Brian left for an extended trip overseas, Andre felt it was time to establish the practice of Andre Porebski and Associates in 1972.

The year 1972 also heralded a new period for high-rise living. One of Andre’s most significant projects at this time, was a high-rise apartment building in Sydney’s Bondi Junction.  Andre’s other work included designing houses for Housing Commission and housing for the Aged. Most significantly Andre’s practice was one of the leading  residential design firms not only in Sydney but further afield in Pearl Beach, Tuross Heads, Oberon and Portsea (VIC). Many of his clients are still close friends. “It’s not just about architecture. It’s the friendships along the way.”

Although retired, Andre’s legacy is continued with the practice lead by Alex and Victoria.
